DETECTION OF LIFE-THREATENING DISEASES
WHY SHOULD I GET TESTED?

Since PSA testing  became available, the number of deaths caused by prostate cancer has went down. The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test helps recognize prostate cancer in men early on, when treatment is most effective. It  can also detect prostatis and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

FAQS

  • When should I get tested?

After prostate cancer diagnosis to monitor and help with treatment; although, if you are a high risk patient - male in his 50s, African American, or have a family history of prostate cancer - you may consider getting tested regularly in order to establish a "baseline" of results. By understanding your PSA levels, you can manage your own health to see if they change over time.

Take proactive action if you experience any of the following symptoms relating to prostate disorders:

  • Frequent urination

  • Difficult and/or painful urination

  • Blood in urine or semen

  • Discomfort or pain when sitting

  • What is being tested?

PSA is a protein produced in the prostate, a small gland only in men. A PSA test checks for signs of prostate cancer such as elevated PSA levels. High PSA levels can also be caused by prostate enlargement, prostate infection, or urinary tract infection.

  • Do I need to fast?

No, but do not work out or ejaculate 48 hours before the blood sample is collected.

  • How do I get the results?

The results usually take 3 to 5 business days and can be delivered in 3 convenient ways: directly to your device through email, sent to your home through mail,  or picked up in the office.
